Just wanted to let you know that Ember and I took our therapy team test -- She passed with flying colors!  She may want a new partner though -- I can't believe how nervous I was, It's not like I don't ever compete in anything!  At one point, the evaluator laughed and reminded me to breathe -- geesh, what was my problem??????

When I first went into the rehab center, a number of residents came up and asked if they could pet Ember.  It was a great opportunity for us to practice since most were either in wheelchairs or used walkers.  Ember was the perfect little lady, and boy did she eat up the attention!!  One poor man was obviously not feeling well, but he still wanted to visit.  Ember must have sensed something about him because she immediately curled up next to his wheels so he could pet her -- the only problem was he couldn't bend over.  I asked her to stand and as soon as his fingers touched her head, she actually stood on her toes with her head elevated so he could reach her -- It was so touching, it was like she knew what he needed.  He stroked her for a few minutes, just gazing down at her -- he said very little, but she knew how to make him "feel better" all on her own.  Too bad I wasn't as relaxed as she was when we actually went in for the test. (lol)  At the end of the evaluation, one of the testers said that Ember and I were like perfect dance partners.

Just wanted to let you know that I took naked Ember to the BRASC shows today.  During the am show she kept targeting the black tape spots on the floor - darn agility dogs (lol)  By the time we got to the pm show, she was really on - she went around like she owned the ring - and boy did she; we took a 4 pt major under Susan Woodle.

Ember moved effortlessly, apparently she brought along a cheering crowd that I didn't even know she had :O))  Lots of people commented on what a lovely bitch she is, and how clean she moves.  I can't tell you how much I absolutely adore her!

We're off to Niagra Falls Next weekend, I'll let you know how we do.

We attended our first official READ session this morning.  Ember participated in two 20 minute sessions, each with a different student. She was the perfect little angel!

The first little boy was reading a book about a Pirate School.  Things were going quite well, he was petting Ember the entire time he was reading, but stayed focused on his book.  About half way through the book, he started showing typical signs of avoidance from stress; he was stumped by the word "treasure."   I told him that Ember was wondering what the picture was on the page.  The boy responded by saying that it was a treasure map, and that the map showed where the treasure was hidden.  Ember then asked what the treasure was.  The boy said that there were dog bones for her and gold for him (he wanted to buy the Statue of Liberty).  At that moment, Ember rolled on her back for her belly to be rubbed - I told him that she was rolling over with excitement, and that she couldn't wait to go on the treasure hunt.  The boy then opened his book and continued reading.

The second session was with a young girl reading a book about farm animals. There was a pig who did a jig in the story.  Ember wanted to know what a jig was.  The little girl stood up, gave a wiggle, and said it was a dance.  The wiggle caught Ember's attention, and she began wiggling her little butt.  The girl started laughing at Ember's wiggle butt dance, and said "hey, she's dancing!"  I then gave Ember the signal to twist (spin to the left) and shout (spin to the right).  The little girl asked if she could try, so I gave her a cookie to hold, showed her the signal, and with a little extra "hidden" help, Ember did the twist and shout for the girl (Ember then had more dance partners than she knew what to do with - the innocence of kids is amazing!)

We will be going back tomorrow and Wed to finish up this short session. Then we will be taking it easy for awhile, we don't have anything planned again until the Nationals.

Take care,

Patti & Ember
